This pair of chimney caps were designed for our client named Matt Eastaff of LEA Construction in Brookings, Oregon. He sent us some crude photos (shown above) of a couple chimney caps on his neighbor's house that we were to use as a template. I suggested a few minor alterations to improve the look and also the functionality. Even though he did not want them to look different, he agreed they were good ideas and agreed to those alterations. These have a 4/12 pitch hipped roof design. The base is designed to wrap under the edge of the concrete slab that is over their chimneys and extends out past the rock facing. We include the stainless steel nuts and bolts to bolt the corners together, so it is secure, yet removable for chimney cleaning. The base rim here is 80" long and 48" wide, There is a 4" tall side on this lower rim of the base. The frame that supports the roof over the base if 10" tall with 6" tall vent openings that are 23" wide. If you look at the larger images that these smaller images link to; you can see the clear vinyl protective film covering the outer shell that is a 20oz copper. We built these 2" wide roof braces to support the flat roof panels from impacts and snow loads that could occur. Once assembled it was structurally solid feeling and did not seem to have any flex to it when lifted up on one corner. Here is the smaller 41" wide square chimney cap being constructed and on it's side to see the inside construction after completion. Here is a photo of this pair of chimney cap waiting for pick-up by the client. they happen to just live in one of the southern coastal towns here in Oregon. We were contracted to add the stainless steel screens for spark arrest, but a week be for we began, he asked to take that off the contract to save money. We did as instructed, but the final weight was still higher than the estimated weight, so there was no discount for not adding those screens. This means they would have gotten the screens for free, had he not asked to leave them off. A week after they picked these up, they contacted us to see about getting the SS screens installed. I gave them 2 options: to bring them back to have us install the screens, or to ship a kit to them with instructions, but it seems that it was too complicated and costly at this point, so they left the screens out. Total Cost: $3,410.80 without crates or delivery |
