This client,  Jack & Patty Ware in Ashland down in Southern Oregon, had asked us to build this 8 sided roof cap to go on the gazebo they had just built.  The first photo clearly shows the cardboard mock-up he made to get the size and angles just right for this cap. It is about a 24/12 pitch with 6" wide sides that were 18: tall. For our minimum charge of $200 we offered them a larger cap with 8" sides and a 24" tall pattern to it, plus the decorative tails seen in the middle photo. Patty selected the Rowan Leaf style tails, but I probed her to tell me what she really wanted. She said it was the closest we had to an oak leaf pattern. I told her we would be happy to accommodate her desire.

Tia, while walking our Husky, found a large oak leak that was a good sample of a classic oak leaf look. I traced it on a sheet of paper, made some minor alteration to thicken the middle area of it, cut it out to trace onto aluminum sheet metal to use as the template for all 8 sides. The oak leaf tail tips were all curled up from cutting the shapes out in the copper. I was prepared to hammer them out flat, yet when I was done cutting them out I decided they looked so cool like that; more natural, so I left it that way for the client to see. They agreed it was a great look. They were planning to drive up to Northern Washington at the same time it would be ready, so they were able to pick it up on their way back down.
